Quote of the Week: Richard Osterlind

The Master Mentalist Richard Osterlind brings us a beautiful and powerful insight about our abilities and the meaning behind them.

Being able to do anything is a dangerous task! We need to take a moment and observe from the Outer Reality so we can truly squeeze all the potential of our performance. If I do something too impossible, it will be impossible.
If we can do anything, we can also do meaningless material

If I do something that challenges the reality of our audience but still feels possible, we arrive to the experience of mystery, especially if that experience is meanginful.

See? We need to take some moments to reflect about our potential. Our skills need this type of preparation so we can share a powerful experience to our participant and audience, offering something that feels possible, and genuine.

That is why an opener needs to be subtle and at the same time interesting enough so we offer an in-crescendo in terms of impossibility. Then we can offer a deeper experience that feels more credible.

As Richard says: "our abilities should make sense to the audience". Explore the meaning of your performances and you will find a rich new space of development.

You dont really need new tricks. We want them of course, but what we really need is the deeper exploration of what we already know rationally into a deeper understanding.

Thanks Richard for your inspiration!
