Quote of the Week: Al Baker

Al Baker, one of the (grand)fathers of Modern Magic and Mentalism offers us inspiration through this powerful idea.

What is "improvement" in our arts?

From the Birreal paradigm we can understand this idea as "inner improvement" and "outer improvement".

Inner Improvement means changing the method so the performance piece becomes simple without compromising clarity, pruning whatever is not really necessary so we can explore the most important aspects (in my opinion), the outer improvements. The interaction with our participants, the artifacts, our script, all those visible and tangible moments that are both the foliage and fruits of our efforts and disciplines.

Authenticity is the true improvement.

If you study the classics of Al Baker, you will see that most "modern version" of his original pieces (such as "the pack that cuts itself" aka Haunted Deck) are not really improvements but different variations, which is fine, but in any case an updated idea that puts away the original. His ideas are still fresh and innovative, which is truly a remarkable achievment.

My invitation for you today is to study the classics (you can find many for FREE in here) and add your own authenticity to those classic pieces.

And if you want to explore the meaning of "authenticity" be sure check our "Authentic Performance Videoucourse" to find how you can truly improve your Mystery Performance.
