What a piece of wisdom from Richard (from his " The Psychic Reader's Toolbox " )
As Mystery Performers we "force" things on our participants constantly, but that dynamic needs to be re-understood so we can reach a deeper level of interaction and participation. Sometimes it is far better to just talk and keep the curiosity alive.
Sometimes people are not fully into the experience because they dont want a performance! and that happens both in casual/social situations as well as in professional ones. Most of the time in private events people dont know that a "Mentalist" will be there, and that is fine! Our job is not just learning cool tricks but the discernment to perform for participants that can really appreciate the moment.
Dont use Magic or Mentalism as your social shield, but as a social skill whenever the situation feels right.
Be always prepared to share a mystery for sure, but dont let that force you to force people everytime to perform trick after trick. A miracle is a once in a lifetime experience, so treat your performances as well in that way.
Being prepared with cool props is fun for sure, but you dont need your stuff everytime you go out, that is why learning powerful ideas with borrowed objects is a fantastic possibility, and if you are interested in that be sure to check the "Anywhere Mentalism" VideoLecture.
Thanks Richard for your constant inspiration
