Powerful psychological insights from Jean Hugard, classic Australian professional magician and author.
In our beginnings we love to learn more and more sleights and tricks, and although that curiosity is highly needed, it is fundamental to constantly reflect this fundamental principles in order to achieve true Mystery Performance and not just tricks without illusion of magic as he says.
That is why at Mentalism Center we focus so much in the difference between practice and rehearsal. In the practice phase we learn the core methods and secret techniques, but that is not enough in order to perform. We need to go to the rehearsal phase in which we imagine a performance, placing in context all the previous practice plus interaction, conversation and connection.
Only in that way we will be able to camouflage the sleights in natural ways. A well crafted technique is not about "mechanical perfection" but being able to create that movement in flowing and simple ways in the context of an actual performance. You dont need a "perfect" whatever but an excellent and integral observation of your actions.
If you are interested in exploring these topics in the context of the basic and fundamental principle of "forcing", our latest video release is for you.
You will learn several forces techniques using various objects (and even some propless approaches) but most importantly, the philosophy and psychology of forces so you can achieve a powerful ambiance of natural impossibility.
