In my beginnings the work of Harry Lorayne gave me not just fun knowledge and techniques, but an understanding of confident attitude as essential in my work. I highly recommend you to study his huge corpus of ideas, both in written and visual form. Watching his fast-paced script and excellent timing allows us to learn all those essential elements of a performance.
In one of his video lessons, teaching a simple 4 Ace trick he said this quote, and this stuck with me until today. The secret to create an ambiance of security in whatever you do is not just doing the mechanical actions but also, as important as that, the ability to convey security and confidence.
This is especially relevant when studying Equivoque. If you hesitate, you lose all the needed foundations and trust from your audience. Whatever the participant says is correct, you are just guiding the meaning of that decision through apparent clarity and non verbal confidence.
If you hesitate, you lose.
Keeping a firm ground needs practice and rehearsal. Yes, learn the "moves" but go beyond that and learn how to contextualize that technique through your body and words.
Only in that way you will be able the create the needed ambiance so your audience and participants can feel the mystery.
