Carl Jung, one of the most influential authors of the 20th century and a master of the Psyche, understood the deeper dimensions of what we call being human. Yes, we have remarkable cognitive capacities, and through the scientific method we can learn a great deal about the behavior of nature, but at our core, we are still only pretending to understand. Everything is an infinite mystery, and we are part of it.
That is why being overly dogmatic about knowledge becomes a real barrier to growth in Mystery Performance, and especially in Mentalism. If we hold only a Materialistic-Physicalist perspective, we miss the bigger picture. We are artists who can perform and share the fascinating possibilities of the human mind. We are performers who can express the beauty of the unknown, so when we become too proud of our apparent knowing, we limit the true potential of our craft.
Again, I am not against rational thinking, of course. I am simply inviting you to transcend its limits. Only in uncertainty can we discover a new kind of expansion within ourselves. Explore the philosophical, the psychological, and even the mystical. There are many authors, both inside and outside our usual sources, who can inspire us.
If you are interested in these possibilities, be sure to check out my book, The Path of Mystery, a timely reminder for these times.
