What a beautiful synthesis from Kenton (quote comes from a recent Facebook post), a masterful insight that can inspire us in our Mystery Performance.
Do you want a good performance or a great one?
Do you want only reactions, or also reflections?
Mystery Performance, perhaps more than any other art form, confronts people with the illusions of materialism, the limits of what we believe is possible, and the untapped potential of the human mind. Yes, Magic and Mentalism are highly entertaining, but they can also be much more. I love performing, but I also love the conversation after the experience, that is where we can go deeper into the mysterious phenomena and the metaphorical implications of what was experienced.
Mentalism, especially when approached in an integral way, can become a truly life-changing experience of meaning, artistry, and authenticity. Great Mentalism does not need to be boring. A meaningful performance is not a long-winded story that feels overly dramatic, quite the contrary. The power of our art often lies in the casual nature of the performance. When you facilitate an experience that feels effortless and natural, its impact becomes even stronger.
I enjoy performing in professional settings, but I often prefer the casualness of sharing mystery without expectations, almost as if it were part of an ordinary conversation.
If you want to explore these ideas, I highly recommend Kenton Principles and my own The Path of Mystery. In those books, you will find principles and insights that can elevate your performance to new levels of potential.
Thanks, Kenton, for your inspiring work.
